LITURGY  (POC:  EDIE BLANCHARD)

Recognizing that  people are the life blood of the church, the liturgical committee provided recruitment, education and training to those interested in serving as lay ministers in various programs. These programs include Altar Servers, Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist, Greeters/Ushers, Lectors, Music, and Prayer Line. Recruiting is an ongoing process with specific emphasis in the fall on a Liturgical Recruitment period. Ministers are commissioned by the parish on a yearly basis or in the case of Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist by the Military Archdiocese for three years. Generally, assignment to serve is on a tri-monthly schedule. Updates, advanced training and continuing education are provided through local and national workshops, retreats and conferences.

MINISTRIES

The Altar Servers Group is open to all youth of the parish starting in the third grade and having completed their First Holy Communion. Altar Servers provide support for the Celebrant at services. Contentious training is scheduled.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EM) assist the Celebrant in distributing communion at each Mass and also to those in the Hospital or homebound (when necessary). Persons wishing to participate in this ministry should have a deep respect for the Eucharist in their daily lives.

Greeters & Ushers extend the hospitality of our parish family to newcomers, conduct for ongoing parish registration, assist in seating parishioners, provide for gathering and counting parish contributions, and pass out the Sunday Bulletin and other special materials. This is an excellent ministry for people who like working with people.

Lectors assist the Celebrant in proclaiming the Word of God at each Mass. This ministry is open to anyone who wishes to enhance a deeper meaning of scripture and who is willing to develop good public speaking habits. Training is ongoing.

Music is a beautiful enhancement to good liturgy. It is provided at each Mass, for special occasions and various celebrations within the parish. Our Director of Music is Dayton Rogalski.  Along with additional musicians in establishing a spiritually enhanced music program. The choir meets weekly at 1900 on Thursday in the Sanctuary. Anyone interested in joining to sing or as an instrument player is encouraged to attend practice. There are groups of singers representing the Life Teen program and a seasonal children's choir. For more information please contact Dayton at the 0945 Mass.

Prayer Line incorporates members of the parish to provide daily/weekly/monthly prayers, Masses, Rosaries, etc. for the intentions of the parish. The parish has a Parish Intentions Book located in the rear of the chapel for parishioners to indicate special intentions and ask for prayer. Intentions stay on the Prayer Line for three months. Everyone is encouraged to officially offer prayers for our parish family as a part of the Prayer Line.

Through the combined efforts of all who participate in Liturgical Ministries, our parish experiences a deeper appreciation for our Catholic faith and how it enhances our daily lives.
