Sacrament of
Reconciliation (Confessions) is held in
the Blessed Sacrament Chapel - Saturdays 1600 -1645 and also,
by appointment. Please contact a priest as soon as
possible.
Baptism
Class is offered for all active duty wishing to have their
child baptized. Classes are held the first Sunday of the month
at 1345 in the Chapel Annex. No pre-registration is necessary.
Baptism times will be established during the class and are
usually held on the second Saturday during the 1700 Mass.
However, special arrangements may be made. Sponsors are
expected to attend training here or at their home parish with
verification by letter from parish Priest. Please contact
Priest/Deacon.
Marriage: Any active duty
considering marriage must contact Priest/Deacon at least six
months in advance on making any
arrangements.
Weddings may be held in the Chapel
for those who qualify for military authorization. Dates and
times must be placed on a master calendar. Please contact a
Priest or the Chapel Office regarding availability before
making plans. A list of Wedding Coordinators will be
provided.
Funerals may be held in the Chapel
for those who qualify for military authorization. Please
contact a Priest or the Chapel office regarding availability
and times as soon as possible.
The Sunday
Bulletin is published weekly as a method of keeping the Parish
family informed regarding activities and
information.
PARISH
COUNCIL (POC:
GLENN NOEHL)
Our Lady of the Skies operates under a
Parish Constitution with a Parish Council supporting and
advising the Pastor. The council acts as a coordinating body,
providing parishioners an opportunity to take leadership roles
in the parish. It seeks to develop resources to assist in the
spiritual development of the parish family.
Parish Council meetings are held on the
second Wednesday each month in the Annex at 1600.The Council
provides both clergy and parishioners a forum for expressing
the needs and concerns of the parish. Council members are
charged with the task of developing programs to deepen the
spirituality of all parishioners as well as reaching out to
the entire Nellis AFB Chapel community and the local
area.
There are 10 permanent members on the
Council. Five serve as representatives of each of the parish's
ministries: Education, Finance, Liturgy, Planning, and Social;
Three serve as officers and two are members-at-large. Each
position has a Job Description with Policies and Procedures on
file in the Pastors office available for review. Any
parishioner 18 years or older may seek election to the
Council. Members normally serve one/two-year terms. Other
members of the council represent organizations formed to
enhance parish life, but affiliated with a national
organization. These include, but are not limited to: Life
Teen, Catholic Women of the Chapel, Scouting groups,
etc.
EDUCATION COMMITTEE
The Education Committee is tasked to
assist the Pastor in developing a yearly religious educational
plan or emphasis for the parish. It has the responsibility of
overseeing accurate, informative and inspirational education
for the Parish family as a whole including CCD, RCIA, and
adult education venues.
FINANCIAL COMMITTEE
The Financial Committee assist the Pastor
and other ministries in establishing sound fiscal management
criteria and in developing and bring to fruition a yearly
budget.
LITURGICAL COMMITTEE
The committee assist the pastor and other
ministries in implementing practices that pertain to the
liturgical development of parish worship and in planning
liturgical celebrations. The Liturgy Committee meets on the
first Wednesday of each month in the Annex at 1900. Please
contact the Liturgy Chairman for information on any
ministry.
PLANNING
COMMITTEE
The Planning Committee assist the Pastor
and other ministries in establishing and maintaining growth
for the Parish through developing a yearly planning/budget
session and conducting Parish Council recruitment. The
committee also coordinates the Master Calendar for the Parish
and handles publicity, including the Sunday
Bulletin.
SOCIAL COMMITTEE The
Social Committee is responsible for assisting the Pastor in
planning and executing social events for the Parish Family.
Areas of interest might include: Receptions for various Parish
activities, Appreciation Dinners, Pool Parties and Picnics,
Welcome Weekends and other activities. This committee serves
to build community and spirituality through social
gatherings.
RELIGIOUS
EDUCATION- CCD (POC:
NASHIA
QUINATA)
Our Lady of the Skies Parish offers
a comprehensive religious education program for children.
Opportunities are provided for sacramental preparation, growth
in spirituality, and personal renewal for youth ages 3 through
high school. Classes are held September - May on Sunday from
0820-0930 or 1100-1210 in the Chapel basement or Annex. Many
parishioners function as teacher and helpers in this program.
To register a child or to offer to assist, please contact the
Religious Education Coordinator. The Religious Education

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS
(RCIA) is a process for beginning a spiritual journey toward
developing full participation in the Roman Catholic Church. It
is open to all active duty and their dependents wishing to
begin such a journey. Parishioners are encouraged to offer
assistance both as sponsors and with prayers for those
participating. Classes are held September to May on Sunday
Afternoon 11:00 - 12:10 at the Airman & Family Readiness

LITURGY (POC: EDIE
BLANCHARD)
Recognizing that people are the
life blood of the church, the liturgical committee provided
recruitment, education and training to those interested in
serving as lay ministers in various programs. These programs
include Altar Servers, Extraordinary Ministers of the
Eucharist, Greeters/Ushers, Lectors, Music, and Prayer Line.
Recruiting is an ongoing process with specific emphasis in the
fall on a Liturgical Recruitment period. Ministers are
commissioned by the parish on a yearly basis or in the case of
Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist by the Military
Archdiocese for three years. Generally, assignment to serve is
on a tri-monthly schedule. Updates, advanced training and
continuing education are provided through local and national
workshops, retreats and conferences.
MINISTRIES
The Altar Servers Group is open to
all youth of the parish starting in the third grade and having
completed their First Holy Communion. Altar Servers provide
support for the Celebrant at services. Contentious training is
scheduled.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy
Communion (EM) assist the Celebrant in distributing
communion at each Mass and also to those in the Hospital or
homebound (when necessary). Persons wishing to participate in
this ministry should have a deep respect for the Eucharist in
their daily lives.
Greeters & Ushers extend the
hospitality of our parish family to newcomers, conduct for
ongoing parish registration, assist in seating parishioners,
provide for gathering and counting parish contributions, and
pass out the Sunday Bulletin and other special materials. This
is an excellent ministry for people who like working with
people.
Lectors assist the Celebrant in
proclaiming the Word of God at each Mass. This ministry is
open to anyone who wishes to enhance a deeper meaning of
scripture and who is willing to develop good public speaking
habits. Training is ongoing.
Music is a beautiful enhancement
to good liturgy. It is provided at each Mass, for special
occasions and various celebrations within the parish. Our Director
of Music is
Dayton Rogalski. Along with additional musicians
in establishing a spiritually enhanced music
program. The choir meets weekly at 1900 on Thursday in the
Sanctuary. Anyone interested in joining to sing or as an
instrument player is encouraged to attend practice. There are
groups of singers representing the Life Teen program and a
seasonal children's choir. For more information please

Prayer Line incorporates members
of the parish to provide daily/weekly/monthly prayers, Masses,
Rosaries, etc. for the intentions of the parish. The parish
has a Parish Intentions Book located in the rear of the chapel
for parishioners to indicate special intentions and ask for
prayer. Intentions stay on the Prayer Line for three months.
Everyone is encouraged to officially offer prayers for our
parish family as a part of the Prayer Line.
Through the combined efforts
of all who participate in Liturgical Ministries, our parish
experiences a deeper appreciation for our Catholic faith and
how it enhances our daily lives.
LIFE
TEEN (POC: LEE
MADARANG)
LIFE TEEN is an international Catholic movement that
serves the Church by providing resources and faith experiences
that help lead teens closer to Christ. This is accomplished
through a vibrant Eucharistic spirituality and by creating
widespread opportunities for teens to grow in their faith. Our
Lady of the Skies Life Teen Youth Mass is celebrated every
third Sunday of each month.
Catholic Women of Chapel
(CWOC) (POC: ANDREA
GUEBER)
Nellis AFB Catholic
Women of the Chapel is dedicated to bringing women of the
military community close to the Church and Christ through
prayer, fellowship, bible and book studies, ministering to the
needs of the Nellis community and supporting parish
programs. CWOC is designed to open our hearts and minds
so that we can more fully bring God into our lives, our
families, and our community. We provide an opportunity for
women to unite in prayer, to learn, share, and grow together
in their knowledge and love of God, their Catholic faith and
the church.
Adult Religious Education
Adult Catholic
lecture is held every second Tuesday of each month at 1900
hours in the Chapel Annex. Also the class is repeated
again on the following Sunday morning from 1100 - 1210 in the
Library. |
